May 09, 2025 (newstodate): Sweden's Stockholm Airport is poised to be among the first EU airports - and the first Scandinavian airport - to see the return of direct flights to Damascus, in Syria.
According to media, the Romanian carrier Dan Air will become the first EU-based airline to operate flights to Syria since the change of regime in Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad in December 2024.
Dan Air is scheduling the start of flights between Damascus and Stockholm Arlanda Airport via Bucharest beginning June 15, 2025, with two weekly rotations operated by Airbus A320 aircraft.
Dan Air is also to launch flights to Damascus from Bucharest, Frankfurt and Berlin in June '25.
Today, only Qatar Airways, Royal Jordanian and Turkish Airlines have reopened services on flights to Syria.
Earlier in the mid-90'ies, Syrian Arab Airlines provided flights to Stockholm from up to three destinations in Syria: Damascus, Aleppo and Kamsehli that was added in 2011 - but all flights were discontinued as the civil war in Syria deepened.
