Apr 11, 2025 (newstodate): Already in its Financial Report 2024, Play Airlines announced the allocation of three aircraft from spring 2026 on a long-term ACMI contract with a yet-disclosed European airline until year-end 2027.
Now the name of the ACMI customer has been revealed: the Ukrainian carrier SkyUp Airlines that will take in not three, but four Airbus aircraft from Play Europe, the Icelandic carrier's new Maltese subsidiary.
The four aircraft will be operating for SkyUp Airlines from bases in Moldova and Poland, primarily on flights in markets including Poland, Estonia, Lithuania, Moldova, Romania and Ukraine.
The ACMI contract has opened a new revenue stream for Play Airlines:
-What we are doing is taking 40 percent of our fleet from unprofitable projects to profitable projects, says Einar Orn Olafsson, Play CEO, in a release.
