Apr 11, 2025 (newstodate): Air Greenland is reopening flights in summer 2025 on its route connecting with Canada.
After some snags and initial cancellations earlier this month, the route between Nuuk Airport and Iqaluit in Northern Canada's Inuit province will be operated once weekly with Dash-8 aircraft till October 22, 2025.
After a 10-years lapse, Air Greenland returned seasonal flights in summer 2024 with the first rotation on June 26, 2024, and the route is operated in cooperation with the Canadian airline Canadian North Air that earlier said it will introduce own flights once the new airport at Nuuk has been opened for international flights on November 28, 2024.
The route was first operated by East Air in cooperation with Air Greenland, later transferred to operate into Kangerlussuaq with larger aircraft, but eventually closed in 2001.
Air Greenland first launched own direct flights between Nuuk and Iqaluit in 2011 but pulled out again in 2012.
Next, Canadian North and Air Greenland signed a LoI in 2020 to explore partnership opportunities for air services and tourism development between Greenland and Canada.
