Mar 12, 2025 (newstodate): After the first two months of 2025, Estonia's Tallinn Airport is seeing an increase in cargo volumes.
A total of 1,461 tonnes was handled in January-February, an increase by 6.9 percent, y-o-y, with February even 10 percent above last year's volume.
So far, this bodes well for a sustained recovery after a negative development in 2023 when volumes dipped 21.2 percent, y-o-y, while growing in 2024 by 13.2 percent to 9,910 tonnes.
A subsidiary of Tallinn Airport, Tallinn Airport City is amid a process of strong growth; on October 1, 2024, the cornerstone was laid on the first cargo terminal on the southern side of the Airport City business complex at Tallinn Airport.
This will see the construction of a 5,250 m2 cargo terminal for FedEx Express Estonia, slated for completion in July 2025.
The FedEx cargo terminal will comprise 1,450 m2 of office space and 3,800 m2 of warehouse space, with loading bays for 57 vehicles.
And only few days later, on October 23, 2024, a cornerstone was laid at the foundation of DHL Express Estonia's coming new facility, also located in Tallinn Airport's Airport City business park and due for completion by the end of 2025.
When completed, the new DHL Express air cargo terminal will provide 1,550 m2 of office space and a 5,700 m2 freight terminal, including new under-roof loading platforms for couriers.
Counting already concluded contracts alone, in 2025 the airport will thus see the addition of nearly 12,500 m2 of space dedicated to air cargo and RFS service, not least serving the growing e-trade businesses.
In addition, the cornerstone will soon be laid for construction of an aircraft hangar complex scheduled for completion by Q4, 2025, with Magnetic MRO AS as the primary tenant.
