Mar 12, 2025 (newstodate): Latvia's Riga Airport has announced the first stage of construction procurement to select a contractor for the reconstruction project of Apron 4, supported by European Union funds.
The project concerns the construction of over 80,000 m2 of the apron’s hard surface, aiming at creating aircraft stands in ten different configurations for Class A to E aircraft, and establish taxiing and service roads.
The reconstruction, slated for completion by the end of 2027, will provide additional aircraft parking stands, contribute to military mobility, and allow for the expansion of the cargo handling area.
Riga Airport's development strategy includes creating a cargo service area, or Cargo City, around Aprons 4 and 5.
Today, Riga Airport handles 37 percent of all air cargo in the Baltic region.
