Mar 05, 2024 (newstodate): Ukraine's State Aviation Service is preparing for a phased opening of the country's airports once conditions are ripe.
The state regulator declares itself ready to support the reopening of the country’s airspace, that will however require the Ukrainian military's ability to ensure the safety of each single airport and air routes served.
-When talking about reopening an airport, first, it is necessary to conduct a security audit and, based on its results, assess the risks for each type of airport. At the same time, the weakening of the enemy’s air dominance directly affects the reopening of airports, says Bohdan Dolintse, member of the Public Council under the State Aviation Service, in an interview on Ukrainian media.
Several Ukrainian airports have declared themselves technically ready to commence operations, and it is expected that the first airports to reopen will be those closer to Ukraine's western borders, allowing for cargo flights into the country in the initial phase, later to be followed by passenger flights.
