Mar 12, 2024 (newstodate): Swedavia is probably looking forward to the launch of new transatlantic connections at Stockholm Airport in summer 2024, bringing in new cargo potentials.
Till then, the airport's cargo statistics remain more depressing, with volumes in February '24 no exception.
In February, a total of 6,990 tonnes of cargo was handled at Stockholm Airport, a sustained drop by 4.7 percent, y-o-y, while volumes in January-February reached 14,329 tonnes and also down six percent.
Proportionally, exports volumes dominate the total volumes handled while dropping by 8.5 percent y-o-y in February - and by 13.7 percent during the first two months of this year.
On the positive side, the airport's import volumes rose 1.2 percent in January and 6.3 percent in Jan-Feb '23, which was however not enough to outbalance the negative effect from declining exports.
Looking ahead, Stockholm Arlanda Airport now prepares for the opening of new flights by ANA from Tokyo starting from June 6, 2024, with three weekly rotations, as well as Air Canada's flights between Stockholm and Montreal to launch from June 14, 2024, also with three weekly rotations, to which will be added loads on Lufthansa Cargo's Airbus A321F services operated with ever-changing frequencies.
