Mar 01, 2024 (newstodate): SAS is currently sending its special MEDEVAC aircraft to Langkawqi, Malaysia, to bring back the hospitalized Norwegian King Harald.
The aircraft is a regular Boeing 737-700 converted into a flying hospital under a contract with the Scandinavian states to provide a hospital aircraft in crisis situations and for medical transport missions.
Requiring 24 hours to be converted to MEDEVAC operations, the Boeing 737-700 has been used in numerous missions such as the tsunami in Thailand, the terrorist attack in In Amenas, Algeria, and evacuation missions from Afghanistan, the Moira refugee camp, and Ukraine.
Over 2,000 wounded and critically ill patients from Ukraine have thus so far been evacuated with SAS' MEDEVAC aircraft, transported from an evacuation center in Poland to hospitals across Europe.
