Mar 15, 2024 (newstodate): China wants to see its new commercial aircraft Comac C919 certified for operation in EU airspace - but will have to wait..
The Chinese aircraft manufacturer Comac has requested the EASA to certify its aircraft by 2026, but that does not yet seem realistic.
In an interview Luc Tytgat, EASA exec director, has indicated that he does not know whether the EASA will succeed in fully certifying the aircraft before 2026.
-The aircraft is too new for us to know how easy or difficult it will be. As long as the aircraft is not certified, it is not welcome in European airspace, he says.
Today, China Eastern Airlines is the only operator of the C919 with five units in the air, but orders have been placed for a total of 738 aircraft - almost exclusively from Chinese carriers as well as leasing companies.
