Mar 20, 2024 (newstodate): The Chinese carrier Juneyao Airlines is to expand its European route map with the opening of new flights.
On the monitor will now be flights from Shanghai Pudong to Brussels starting from July 1, 2024, with three rotations, followed by flights also three times weekly to Manchester from July 3, 2024, in both cases operated with Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
Juneyao Airlines launched flights between Shanghai and Helsinki as its first European destination on June 28, 2019, with daily rotations during the summer schedule and three weekly rotations during the winter schedule.
Later that year, the Chinese carrier revealed plans for developing Helsinki Airport as its European mini-hub.
Juneyao Airlines then announced that it would extend the Shanghai-Helsinki route to Manchester, in the UK, starting from March 2020, on three weekly flights, later even announcing that starting from the same date the Shanghai-Helsinki route would be extended to Dublin on two of the seven weekly flights.
However, the outbreak of the Covid-19 in China spreading into a global pandemic put the plans for Helsinki as a hub for Juneyao Airlines on hold.
And now they are fully shelved, with the airline going directly point-to-point in Europe instead.
Besides operating flights connecting Shanghai and Helsinki all through the Covid-19 period, Juneyao Airlines is also operating on the route between Zhengzhou and Helsinki launched from October 12, 2020, with one weekly rotation using Boeing 787-9 aircraft.
