Mar 14, 2024 (newstodate): Russia's turn to a war-time economy is now threatening its plans to grow the production of commercial aircraft.
According to the annual review of the Russian transport complex by the State Transport Leasing Company, “for objective reasons (aircraft factories are loaded with military orders), the production of civil aircraft has declined.”
-In 2023, 89 civil helicopters were produced (110 less than in 2022) and several prototypes of passenger aircraft. This year, even fewer - only 68 - helicopters, and no aircraft are expected to be delivered, the report says.
According to representatives of the UAC and the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, deliveries of new Russian aircraft to airlines are now postponed from 2024 to a later period.
Only in January 2024, Russia's cabinet of Ministers agreed on an ambitious plan for building commercial aircraft, envisaging the construction of "more than" 600 domestic aircraft, providing the basis of the fleet of Russian airlines to comprise shorter-range Superjet and MC-21 aircraft, Il-114 and Tu-214 for medium-range flights, and wide-body aircraft Il-96-300 for long-haul operations.
According to a Russian government website, plans are to transfer 142 SSJ-New aircraft, 270 MC-21-310, 70 Il-114-300, 115 Tu-214 aircraft and 12 Il-96-300 aircraft to domestic air carriers.
-Under the prevailing conditions of sanctions, our own modern air fleet is of utmost importance for the connectivity of the regions of our large country, the Prime Minister emphasized on the cabinet meeting.
Now, reality is overtaking plans and visions due to the effects from Russia's war on Ukraine.
