Mar 20, 2024 (newstodate): The largest private airline company in the Czech Republic, the charter and ACMI carrier Smartwings is now back on full Czech ownership.
The Chinese state investment group CITIC Group has sold its stake held since 2016 to the Czech company Prague City Air.
In 2022, the Israeli airline Israir that has operated Smartwings aircraft on ACMI contracts abandoned its plan to buy out a 49.92 percent stake in the Czech carrier from Chinese investors due to the current geopolitical situation in the Middle East.
In the fleet of Smartwings are 36 Boeing 737 aircraft, including 10 Boeing 737 MAX 8.
Since 2022, Prague City Air also owns 70 percent of the Czech carrier CSA, with Smartwings owning the rest.
