Mar 04, 2024 (newstodate): A brand-new Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft is now in the air - in the livery of Ukraine International Airlines!
Actually, while carrying the colors of the effectively grounded Ukrainian carrier, the aircraft is registered in Argentina for entering the fleet of the national carrier Aerolineas Argentinas that has taken over the aircraft parked since its completion in 2019.
At that time, Boeing was unable to deliver it to its customer, UIA, and only few days before the aircraft was to lift off to Ukraine, all Boeing 737 MAX aircraft flights were suspended due to the second crash of an aircraft of this type.
After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, demand for air travel dropped significantly, and UIA, which was experiencing financial difficulties at that time, decided to refuse delivery of the Boeing 737 MAX 8.
The aircraft thus remained on the ground - until diverted to its new Argentine operator.
