Mar 18, 2024 (newstodate): After being stuck on the ground for two years, one Boeing 747-8F is finally back in the air.
The aircraft formerly in the fleet of AirBridgeCargo has been grounded at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport since the outbreak of Russia's war on Ukraine, barred from receiving spares and support due to sanctions composed by western and other states.
Following a legal battle with the aircraft owner, the Chinese leasing company BOC, ABC was fined for not meeting its lease contract requirements, and ABC finally decided to hand back the aircraft to the owner, leaving Moscow for Shanghai.
Before the Russian war, AirBridgeCargo invariably stood at the top of the country's air cargo industry with an all-western aircraft fleet comprising three Boeing 747-400F, 12 Boeing 747-8F and one Boeing 777F.
Now, AirBridgeCargo is mulling plans for a return to the skies, but with Russian-built IL-96-400T freighter aircraft.
