Feb 21, 2024 (newstodate): A new non-scheduled airline is under formation in Bulgaria: Bees Airlines.
The company is in the process of obtaining its Bulgarian AOC, expecting to launch services from Bucharest already in spring '24 aiming at the market for charter traffic to destinations in Europe, Africa and Asia with a leased Airbus A320 aircraft, earlier serving the Latvian carrier Heston Airlines.
The name of new fledgling carrier suggests a close relationship to the now-defunct Ukrainian carrier Bee Airlines, set up in 2019, and operating a fleet of four leased Boeing 737-800 aircraft that were, however, relocated to points outside the country and grounded after the outbreak of Russia's war on Ukraine.
This left Bees Airlines with less than the two aircraft required by the Ukrainian regulator to maintain its license, leading to its loss of an AOC in August 2022.
