Feb 20, 2024 (newstodate): With effect from later this week, Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport will pull out from the ground handling business.
Instead, the airport's own handling activities will be transferred to Menzies, serving primarily the key customer Air Serbia that itself accounts for some 70 percent of Belgrade Airport’s in-house ground handling business.
Menzies and Air Serbia are now to set up a JV to support the Serbian carrier’s ambitious growth plans.
The agreement, Menzies biggest deal in Eastern Europe to date, will see local teams manage more than 22,000 turns in the first year.
The move is the latest step by Air Serbia to expand its network. With approximately half of the traffic at Belgrade, the airline grew its network to 15 new destinations in 2022, adding a further 23 routes in 2023 including the United States, China, Greece, Italy, Germany, Poland and many others.
Today, 14 companies have permits to operate as ground handling companies at Belgrade Airport, but only Menzies is licensed to operate all ground handling services.
This includes administrative tasks, serving passengers, receiving and equipping luggage, mail, goods and aircraft, transporting passengers and crew to and from the aircraft, supplying aircraft with food and drinks, and aircraft maintenance.
