Feb 14, 2024 (newstodate): Lithuania's Vilnius Airport shared the fate of many airports, seeing its cargo volumes down in 2023.
A total of 14,268 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, a decline by 6.7 percent, y-o-y, while 6.4 percent above pre-Covid levels in 2019.
The country's second-largest airport at Kaunas also noted a drop in volumes totaling 4,856 tonnes and down 4.08 percent, while Palanga Airport was up by 11.51 percent to 328 tonnes in 2023.
Together the three airports managed by Lithuanian Airports thus handled 20,052 tonnes of cargo in 2023 - down 5.83 percent, y-o-y, while 16.74 percent above pre-Covid levels in 2019.
Looking into air cargo, the master plan published earlier this year for Vilnius Airport foresees an increase from 15,987 tonnes in 2022 to between 27,300 and 52,800 tonnes in 2052, with 39,100 tonnes as the baseline.
