Feb 02, 2024 (newstodate): Denmark's Billund Airport came off to a good start of the year, with cargo volumes soaring.
A total of 6,976 tones of cargo was handled at the airport, an increase by 25.6 percent, y-o-y.
Totals comprised 2,235 tonnes of imports that were up by 58.7 percent, while exports increased by 14.4 percent to 4,741 tonnes.
Driving the growth in cargo at Billund Airport is clearly Maersk Air Cargo that has added a third Boeing 767 freighter to its base now operating six weekly flights to Hangzhou in China, alongside a fourth aircraft serving the ad-hoc market.
Also boosting the airport's cargo business since January 3, 2022, is the Icelandic cargo carrier Bluebird Nordic, online with flights coming in from Keflavik to Billund, continuing to Bonn/Cologne Airport and returning along the same route in a cooperation with UPS.
Billund Airport is served by Turkish Airlines Cargo with three weekly operations, and adding to the cargo traffic at Billund Airport are also integrators DHL, Fedex and UPS.
