Feb 29, 2024 (newstodate): In 2031, the responsibility for air traffic management of Greenland's 4 mio km2 airspace will move from Denmark to Greenland.
One issue to be solved is whether the physical location of the coming Greenland ATM will be adjoining the new expanded Nuuk Airport opening in November 2024- or somewhere else in the country.
The operator of the ATM is Denmark's NAVIAIR that reportedly supports the locality at the Nuuk Airport for easier links to operators and other stakeholders, while Greenland's government would prefer the coming new facility and its employees to be placed elsewhere in the country to support decentralization.
NAVIAIR is owned by the Danish state, tasked with air navigation and related infrastructure services.
