Jan 29, 2024 (newstodate): The Swedish-built SAAB 340 is now history with the Scottish carrier Loganair that operated its last flights with the aircraft on January 25, 2024.
At its height, the carrier operated 18 aircraft of this type on scheduled regional routes totaling 430,000 flights.
After Loganair's departure with the SAAB 340, the Polish airline Sprintair is now the largest European operator with nine aircraft including two reconfigured to cargo version.
Next comes the Latvian airline Nyxair with four SAAB 340 in passenger version and two converted to freighters, while the Estonian airline Airest operates five SAAB 340 aircraft, most of which in cargo configurations.
The Latvian airline RAF-Avia is also still operating three SAAB 340, of which one in QC version.
The SAAB 340 took to the air for the first time on January 25, 1983, and production closed in after 1999 with a total of 459 aircraft produced.
