Jan 22, 2024 (newstodate): Romania and Bulgaria are set to join the Schengen Area by air and sea from March 2024.
In Romania, Henri Coanda International Airport and the Benias Aurel Vlaicu International Airport have both announced their readiness to separate Schengen and non-Schengen passenger streams, claiming that already now two-thirds of their total passenger volumes come from or go to the Schengen area.
In Bulgaria, Sofia Airport has similarly assured readiness long in advance, with overnight transition plans to enable smooth implementation from day one, and the country's Varna and Burgas airports, managed by Fraport, also document compliance with Schengen facility standards.
