Jan 17, 2024 (newstodate): Norway's Evenes Airport is back again in 2023 as a venue for the country's seafood air exports.
With the first flight on October 31, 2023, Qatar Airways Cargo is now performing a weekly Boeing 777F operation at Evenes Airport to lift seafood shipments to the global marketplace via the carrier's hub.
In November-December '23, Qatar Airways Cargo lifted a total of 800 tonnes of cargo on the flights out of Evenes, while domestic cargo and mail added another 400 tonnes to the total volumes handled at the airport.
The Qatar Airways Cargo operation is supported by the freight forwarding company Air Cargo Logistics AS; handling is provided by Wideroe Ground Handling AS, and NordicGSA is serving Qatar Airways Cargo as its GSSA.
Earlier, Qatar Airways Cargo made its entry at Evenes Airport on December 14, 2020, offering three weekly operations complementing Qatar Airways passenger flights and freighter services at Oslo Airport.
Qatar Airways Cargo was later joined at Evenes Airport by Virgin Atlantic from February 3, 2021, with two weekly flights to London Heathrow.
However, Qatar Airways suspended operations at Evenes from November 2022, and Virgin Atlantic pulled out already from summer 2021 - leaving the region's seafood exporters to rely solely on cargo operations at Oslo Airport again.
