Jan 10, 2024 (newstodate): Lithuanian Airports has now published its master plans for developments till 2052.
For Vilnius Airport, the master plan envisions an increase in passenger volumes from 3.9 mio in 2022 to between 8.8 and 13.1 mio passengers, with 10.8 mio as the baseline by the end of the period.
Looking into air cargo, the master plan for Vilnius Airport foresees an increase from 15,987 tonnes in 2022 to between 27,300 and 52,800 tonnes in 2052, with 39,100 tonnes as the baseline.
While estimating a significant growth in volumes, the airport does not, however, see needs for any expansion of today's 5,325 m2 facilities, while reservation of some 10,000 m2 space is invluded in the master plan catering to future expansion of express cargo handling activities.
On December 1, 2022, the state-owned company Lithuanian Airports announced the Dutch company Royal HaskoningDHV winner of the tender for a master plan analyzing and preparing for a long-term network development of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga airports.
The Dutch company has thus worked out a 10-years master plan by analyzing the development potentials and alternatives of the three airports of Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga, as well as focusing on the specific strengths of the individual airports, routes expansion, and increasing the capacity of the passenger and cargo terminals.
