Jan 19, 2024 (newstodate): As SAS prepares to leave the Star Alliance for Sky Team later this year, the carrier is sure to face new, stiff competition from its earlier airline partners on its home turf, the Nordics markets.
One key Star Alliance member is Lufthansa that will move deeper into the three Scandinavian markets.
As a first manifestation, Lufthansa has now confirmed its commitment to Norway in its 2024 summer program that will see the opening of new routes and increases in frequency on others.
Lufthansa is thus to introduce flights to Trondheim from Munich, with two weekly departures starting April 28, 2024.
The carrier is also to increase capacity on existing routes, including going up from one to six weekly rotations between Munich and Bergen and from three to four rotations a week between Munich and Oslo.
Lufthansa flights from Frankfurt to Bergen will increase from 14 to 18 weekly rotations, and flights from Frankfurt to Bergen will increase from 14 to 18 weekly rotations.
Several other Lufthansa Group carriers will also expand their services to Norway, including SWISS that is to launch flights from Geneva to Oslo starting April 2, 2024, while Discover Airlines will be operating from Frankfurt to Evenes from May 16 to Alta from December.
Along the same lines, Edelweiss is to launch flights from Zurich to Evenes from June 10, 2024.
