Jan 23, 2024 (newstodate): The privately-owned Iraqi carrier Fly Baghdad is now comprised by US sanctions for allegedly providing assistance to Iran’s military wing and its proxy groups in Iraq, Syria and Lebanon.
According to media, the sanctions block access to US property and bank accounts and prevent the targeted people, including the airline's CEO and companies, from doing business with Americans.
As expected, Fly Baghdad denies the US allegations and says it would take legal action to demand compensation for losses resulting from the sanctions.
Fly Baghdad has put Copenhagen Airport on its monitor, originally announcing the start of flights between Baghdad and Copenhagen from December 28, 2023, and later rescheduling the flights to commence from January 25, 2024 - which is still not confirmed.
Fly Baghdad intends to operate a weekly service from Erbil, in Iraqi Kurdistan, operated with wet-leased Airbus A320 aircraft from the Romanian airline Dan-Air as the airline itself is banned from EU airspace in the latest EU air safety black list published on November 30, 2023.
