Jan 05, 20243 (newstodate): Finnair exited 2023 with a sound growth by 10.3 percent, y-o-y, in cargo volumes.
A total of 135,370 tonnes of cargo was carried in January-December '23, bolstered not least by the unusual hike in M East volumes thanks to the strategic cooperation with Qatar Airways; these volumes thus reached 22,632 tonnes, rising 415 percent, y-o-y!
Volumes on the carrier's crucial Asian lanes also improved by 27.8 percent, y-o-y, to 73,391 tonnes as Finnair gradually reopened and increased traffic from Helsinki to Tokyo Haneda and Narita, as well as Osaka, operating a total of 20 weekly frequencies to Japan during the summer '23 program.
On the NAM routes Finnair however dipped 50.8 percent, y-o-y, to only 15,083 tonnes in 2023.
December '23 alone saw the carrier transporting a total of 12,584 tonnes of cargo, an increase by 16.5 percent, y-o-y.
Compared to pre-Covid levels, Finnair Cargo is still to fully recover from the pandemic; in 2019, Finnair thus generated a total of 173,282 tonnes of cargo, rising 9.6 percent, y-o-y.
