Jan 12, 2024 (newstodate): A total of 286,684 tonnes of cargo, legacy and integrator volumes included, was handled at Copenhagen Airport in 2023.
This was down 4.8 percent, y-o-y, but looking into volumes on legacy carriers alone, the decline was "only" 3.7 percent compared to the preceding year.
The drop in legacy carriers' volumes in 2023 was primarily due to a fall by 6.1 percent in belly cargo, to 98,601 tonnes, while trucked legacy volumes were down 3.3 percent, y-o-y, to 88,013 tonnes.
Boding well for the airport was a return of cargo on legacy freighter traffic, which reached 2,611 tonnes against only 105 tonnes in 2022.
On March 12, 2023, Ethiopian Airlines Cargo introduced a weekly freighter service at Copenhagen Airport; later into the year Lufthansa Cargo also added Copenhagen Airport to its European short-haul freighter with the first A321F flight from Frankfurt on September 28, 2023, and the airport has also seen a growth in ad-hoc cargo operations in 2023.
Overall, Copenhagen Airport has still some way to go to fully recover from Covid-19; in 2023 total volumes were thus still 17 percent below volumes in 2019.
