Jan 17, 2024 (newstodate): Sweden's Jonkoping Airport felt the impact from the general drop in cargo in 2023.
A total of 3,072 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled at the airport in 2023, a drop by 11 percent, y-o-y.
2022 was, however, also a unique year that saw an increase in volumes, y-o-y, at 24 percent, thanks to the return from January 31, 2022, of PostNord's postal flights at Jonkoping Airport, suspended since 2018, and a steep growth by no less than 820 percent to 368 tonnes in ad-hoc freighter operations.
In 2023, the airport handled 686 tonnes of mail which was an increase by 38 percent, while cargo on ad-hoc operations dropped by 56 percent to only 164 tonnes.
The airport however remains confident of a rebound in 2024, currently negotiating with one more, yet-unnamed, carrier to grow its volumes in in-night operations.
