Sep 01, 2023 (newstodate): The Norwegian low-cost carrier Norse Atlantic Airways has a new major shareholder as of the beginning of this week: the Monaco group Scorpio Holding Ltd.
Through the acquisition, Scorpio becomes the 2nd largest shareholder with 10.17 of the shares after the carrier's founder Bjorn Tore Larsen.
The new shareholder controls the marine tanker operator Scorpio Tankers and Eneti, active in construction of offshore wind farms - hardly key drivers in the aviation industry.
The acquisition has raised speculation whether it is purely a financial investment, or a harbinger of a larger acquisition.
According to the website Simple Flying, Norse Atlantic Airways is searching for a partner in the American market to utilize the cargo capacity on its Transatlantic routes.
