Sep 27, 2023 (newstodate): The German virtual carrier Lubeck Air is reconsidering its future and has announced a stop to all flight operations.
Citing issues including a restructuring of the company as well as rethinking its business plan, Lubeck Air is thus closing all bookings after October 29, 2023.
In 2020, Lubeck Airport, on Germany's Baltic Sea coast, lost services by Ryanair and Wizz Air, driving Lubeck Airport to set up an own virtual airline, Lubeck Air, to bring back regional connectivity.
Lubeck Air launched services in cooperation with the Danish regional carrier Air Alsie operating Lubeck Air's ATR72-500 aircraft placed on its AOC on Lubeck Air's routes opening in June 2020 from Lubeck to Munich and Stuttgart aiming at the business traveler segment.
But due to the effects from the Covid-19 pandemic, the airline shifted its focus instead to the leisure market, and the network now includes flights to primarily Mediterranean tourist spots.
In spring 2023, the airline's ATR aircraft was put up for sale ending the cooperation with the Danish airline partner, and Lubeck Air has since leased in capacity from the Greek carrier Marathon Airlines with Embraer 175 capacity.
