Sep 25, 2023 (newstodate): The Lithuanian carrier Avion Express and its subsidiary Avion Express Malta have rounded a significant milestone: IATA membership.
By year-end 2020, Avion Express and Avion Express Malta achieved IOSA certification, a prerequisite for IATA membership.
IATA's Operational Safety Audit Program IOSA aims at preventing air accidents through certified bi-annual quality audits, and allows carriers to conclude code-sharing and interline-agreements with other airlines, as well as facilitating beneficial leasing conditions from aircraft lessors.
In the fleet now are 50 Airbus A320 aircraft - up from 16 aircraft by the end of 2021.
Today, the fleet of Avion Express comprises 12 Airbus A320 Family aircraft, and its Maltese subsidiary Avion Express Malta with an own Maltese AOC in May 2019 operates another 27 Airbus A320 Family aircraft, making Avion Express a world leader in the narrow-body wet-lease business.
That tally makes up only 39 aircraft - but 11 other Avion Express aircraft are registered with ACMI customers and not included in Avion's own fleet roster.
By the end of next year, Avion Express plans to increase its fleet to 60 aircraft and expects to reach a fleet of 100 aircraft by the end of 2027.
Among the carrier's existing customers are airline including Eurowings, SunExpress, Transavia Netherlands, TUI UK, Flynas, Air Baltic, British Airways Euroflyer, Air Malta, Pegasus.
Both airlines are members of Lithuania's Avia Solutions Group with HQ in Ireland.
