Sep 15, 2023 (newstodate): Icelandair Cargo has started the search for a new Managing Director Cargo.
With immediate effect, the current holder of the position, Gunnar Mar Sigurfinnsson, has decided to step down as well as leaving the Icelandair Group's Executive Committee.
As an interim solution, Einar Mar Gudmundsson, director of Icelandair's technical department, will fill both seats until a permanent successor to Mr Sigurfinsson has been named.
According to the official announcement from the Icelandair Group, Mr Sigurfinnsson will stay with Icelandair to "support important projects that lie ahead within the company".
Mr Sigurfinnsson's career with Icelandair reaches back to 2005, first serving as Chief Commercial Officer for over five years, followed by more than 15 years in the latest position as head of Icelandair Cargo.
In its recent earnings forecast, out this week, the Icelandair Group deplores the unsatisfactory performance of its cargo arm, stressing the need for a new approach to face industry challenges.
