Sep 12, 2023 (newstodate): Not overly surprising, given the current situation, the German airport company Fraport is reconsidering its future as stakeholder in Russia's St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, the head of Russia's second-largest bank VTB, that is also a shareholder in the airport, revealed that discussions are ongoing, with a solution to be found before the end of this year.
In June 2009, the Northern Capital Gateway consortium, in which Fraport held a 35.5 percent share alongside Russia's VTB Bank and the Greek Horizon Air Investments, emerged as the preferred bidder in the tender for operating Pulkovo Airport, Russia's fourth-largest airport, from 2010 and 30 years ahead.
The Danish engineering consultancy company Ramboll was appointed lead design consultant on the complete redevelopment of St Petersburg Pulkovo Airport, and was put in charge of the project's first design phase requiring a multidisciplinary team involving 200 Ramboll employees from different business units in Russia, Denmark, the UK and Sweden.
The St Petersburg contract placed Ramboll among the top-five engineering consultancies in the world within airports and aviation.
