Sep 06, 2023 (newstodate): Since its inception in 2018, the Estonian company Kulljet has been active in the private jet brokering business. But in February 2023, a new department was added: air cargo.
Heading the process in air cargo since March 2023 is Toomas Orukivi, experienced in cargo and airline business with former positions in companies including Estonian Air during 2000-2012 as Head of Cargo; with ULS Airlines Cargo in 2012-2015, followed by years with a/o Essenta Logistics.
-The idea of Kulljet was to add airfreight forwarding business to its portfolio, and this brought me into the company, says Mr Orukivi.
-Starting from zero is of course a challenge. But from the start we focussed on building the cargo department, establishing agreements with airlines, and obtaining status as certified IATA agent.
-We have completed these initial processes and are now concentrating on building an extensive network while turning attention to sales in the market and promoting the knowledge of our brand and our capabilities.
-We have already successfully managed shipments between Estonia and markets such as India and China, but volumes are of course still small in this phase.
-Anyway, it takes time to go from Zero, and Estonia's airfreight volumes are also small as demonstrated by the Tallinn Airport statistics that show two-digit declines compared to earlier years.
-The key point is that we are now established in the market and growing our business in this challenging environment, says Mr Orukivi.
