Sep 11, 2023 (newstodate): Facing an entirely new chapter in the coming years, Air Greenland will have a new COO and Accountable Manager from January 1, 2024: Jorn E Rasmussen.
Mr Rasmussen is however no newcomer to Air Greenland, already serving for over five years in the position as Technical Director since May 2018.
Prior to this, Mr Rasmussen was with SAS for 28 years till September 2017, ending up in the seat as SAS Technical Production Manager at SAS' base at Stockholm Airport.
The coming airport infrastructure now taking shape in Greenland will offer new opportunities and challenges for Air Greenland.
Today, Greenland's only Atlantic airport with traffic from Denmark is the outlying Kangerlussuaq Airport in the south, which requires transfer on smaller aircraft for passengers and cargo to and from cities in Greenland, notably Nuuk.
With Greenland's new infrastructure in place, international flights can be operated starting from the end of 2024 at the new Nuuk Airport as well as at Ilulissat Airport, a coastal town in western Greenland with significant seafood industries, with both airports to be equipped with a 2,200 m runway.
