Aug 24, 2023 (newstodate): Sanctions on Russia will deal a fresh blow to the country's civil aviation industry, including airport operations.
The global provider of IT services and communication in the aviation industry, SITA has decided to pull out from Russia by September 2023.
Without the SITA communication system, Russian airlines will no longer be able to transmit data about flights, passengers and their luggage to international airport, and foreign airlines will also be unable to transmit data to Russian airports through the SITA channel.
This will affect foreign airlines operating flights to Russia including Air Serbia, Turkish Airlines, Emirates and other Gulf airlines.
Russia’s Transportation Ministry claims that it is aware of the problem and plans to set up “alternative messaging channels” between the Russian carriers and SITA’s global IT system.
-The question has been resolved with most of the countries where international flights go, and talks are in progress with aviation authorities in other countries, a spokesperson from the Ministry says oin Russian media.
