Aug 18, 2023 (newstodate): The Faroe Islands' coming new cargo airline FarCargo is readying for launch of services within the coming few months.
Key driver behind the new virtual airline is Bakkafrost, the country's leading salmon exporter to the US market, acquiring one Boeing 757-200 converted freighter entering Swedish register and placed on the AOC of West Atlantic Sweden that will also be operating the aircraft.
Newstodate has earlier reported the start of five weekly operations slated for October 30, 2023.
Still, this is not confirmed by FarCargo.
-According to the seller of the aircraft, delivery will take place in October, says Birgir Nielsen, FarCargo CEO.
-Operations will start with test flights and possibly some intra-European cargo flights.
-And only thereafter FarCargo will launch regular flights on the planned route Vagar-Keflavik-New York Newark-Billund-Vagar, says Mr Nielsen.
Purchased from AirSale, FarCargo's Boeing 757-200F aircraft has received its Swedish registration, leaving the paint shop in FarCargo's livery at Taikoo Xiamen Aircraft Engineering Co. Ltd on June 10, 2023, awaiting final delivery.
According to insider information, the process has however been running behind schedule on the seller's side, causing delays to the official take-over.
