Aug 25, 2023 (newstodate): Despite sanctions on Russia due to its war on Ukraine, Moscow Domodedovo Airport is seeing cargo volumes rising in the first half of this year.
According to the airport, a total of 42,500 tonnes of cargo has been handled in January-June 2023, an increase by nine percent, y-o-y.
Russian statistics remain a puzzle, though: earlier the airport reported a total of "only" 37,000 tonnes handled and claimed an increase by 10 percent, y-o-y!
In its latest statistics, the airport notes the handling in H1/2023 of almost 12 tonnes of mammoth tusks, over two tonnes of chocolate, two tonnes of animals, and 1.5 tons of aquarium fish, as well as about 1.5 tons of musical instruments.
Other special cargo shipments included in the H1/23 volumes are 0.5 tonnes of silver items, 20 kg of diamonds, and 10 kg of wedding dresses.
