Aug 08, 2023 (newstodate): Lithuanian Airports will have a new CEO: Simonas Bartkus.
Taking up the position from August 6, 2022, Mr Bartkus brings in rich experience from within and around the aviation and airport business, with positions at companies such as Vilnius Airport, Air Lituanica, Small Planet Airlines as well as Girteka Logistics, Europe’s largest full truckload transport company.
Serving as Lithuanian Airport CEO since March 2018, Marius Gelzinis stepped down in June 2022, leaving Aurimas Stikliunas, Head of Aviation Services, to serve as Acting CEO during the interim period that has now come an end.
Mr Bartkus takes over the CEO position as the state-owned company Lithuanian Airports is in the final steps towards opening a new chapter as a joint-stock company later this year.
Since July 1, 2014, the three state-owned international airports - Vilnius, Kaunas and Palanga - in Lithuania have been jointly managed by Lithuanian Airports Plc.
But the aim has long been to migrate from a state-owned entity to a joint-stock company, allowing for fully commercial operations without direct state control through the country's Ministry of Transportation.
