Aug 03, 2023 (newstodate): Reflecting the general trend in air cargo, Sweden's Jonkoping Airport reports a slight drop in cargo volumes in H1/2023.
A total of 1,239 tonnes of cargo was handled at the airport, which was a drop by 16 percent, y-o-y, also due to a decline in ad-hoc cargo operations.
The airport is however finding some consolation from figures of mail volumes handled during the period: a total of 329 tonnes of mail was handled, which was an increase by 127 percent compared to H1/22.
Behind the steep increase in mail shipments is PostNord Sweden's mail flights operated under the contract with the Swiss carrier Zimex.
Starting from January 31, 2022, PostNord Sweden has been performing nightly flights on weekdays between Stockholm Arlanda and Jonkoping Airport, adding flights from Jonkoping to Arlanda May, further bolstering the mail volumes handled at the airport.
Summing up, Jonkoping Airport saw its total cargo and mail volumes sliding by three percent in H1/2023, to 1,567 tonnes.
