Aug 31, 2023 (newstodate): The Swedish airline West Atlantic has been the world's largest operator of ATP freighters, with up to 41 aircraft of the type in the fleet.
The airline has however long since focussed on divesting itself of the aircraft type, performing its last ATP cargo operation on February 24, 2023.
With the take-over of West Atlantic by the Spanish airline group LUSAT in April 2019, a decision was made to finally phase out the ATP fleet entirely by setting up a new Swedish company, Swedish ATP Management AB, owned by LUSAT and managed by Stefan Sundberg as CEO - and the company's sole employee.
The purpose of Swedish ATP Management is to operate, maintain, and finance the ATP fleet comprising 24 units in 2020.
Among customers taking over ATP freighter aircraft from Swedish ATP Management/West Atlantic is the Kenyan airline EnComm Airlines that now operates five of these aircraft, with plans to expand further with additional acquisitions.
