Aug 24, 2023 (newstodate): Africa's leading airline Ethiopian Airlines has no problem with its services to the Russian market.
In the coming winter 23/24 schedule, the airline will add one additional weekly flight, going up to five rotations from Addis Ababa from December 13, 2023, operated with Boeing 787 and Boeing 777 aircraft, growing again from four weekly rotations since June 1, 2023.
Beside Turkish Airlines and Egypt Air, Ethiopian Airlines is one of only three Star Alliance member airlines continuing to operate flights to Russia in defiance of the sanctions regime imposed by western and other countries.
Ethiopian Airlines returned passenger flights to Moscow in December 2018 after having earlier operated services until May 1991; but the carrier has actually been present in the Russian market with a direct freighter service between Addis Ababa and Moscow Sheremetyevo since August 15, 2012, with two weekly rotations using a Boeing 757-200PCF freighter.
