Aug 09, 2023 (newstodate): On August 4, 2023, the new Ukrainian carrier Supernova Airlines successfully rounded an important milestone by obtaining its part-TCO certification by EASA, demonstrating its adherence to European air safety requirements.
Acknowledged as a Third Country Operator, Supernova can thus operate freely in EU airspace, allowing it to spread its wings further as the company expands.
Established by the Ukrainian postal company Nova Poshta, Supernova obtained its AOC on January 6, 2023, as the first Ukrainian carrier in wartime, and plans are to launch cargo and postal flights from airports closest to Ukraine pending the time when operations at Ukrainian international airports Boryspil and Lviv are again feasible.
Competitor to Ukraine's state-owned postal service, the private Ukrainian postal and courier company Nova Poshta is already seeing success with its parcel flights between Riga Airport in Latvia and Rzeszow, close to the border with Ukraine and allowing for fast trucking of parcel shipments to recipients in Ukraine.
The flight operations are performed with one ATR72 converted freighter on an ACMI contract with the Latvian carrier RAF-AVIA.
The operation was launched in May 2023, and a total of 250,000 international parcels, notably e-trade shipments, were transported on 14 flights during the first two months of the operation.
Managing the airline as CEO is Yaroslav Krasnozhon, formerly serving with the Turkish-owned Atlasjet Ukraine.
