Aug 15, 2023 (newstodate): DB Schenker has abandoned plans for construction of a new general cargo terminal at Oslo Airport.
On December 5, 2022, the company signed a contract with Avinor for space at Oslo Airport for construction of a new 4,000 m2 airfreight terminal dedicated to handling of all types of cargo on incoming and outgoing international flights.
With the new terminal, DB Schenker hoped to spur airlines to optimize the use of cargo space on incoming passenger aircraft for onward transfer of shipments by trucking to regional destinations rather than trucking cargo shipments from Europe into the region.
Now, the plans have been shelved.
-DB Schenker has been a reliable and stable partner for Norway's economy for many years. Against this background, and due to changes in economic conditions, freight markets and consumer behavior, we have decided to re-evaluate our decision regarding the investment at Oslo Airport in recent months.
-We have subsequently decided not to pursue the planned investment for the time being, a DB Schenker HQ spokesperson responds to newstodate's inquiry.
