Aug 03, 2023 (newstodate): War has come to Moscow in the form of several drone attacks on installations in and near the Russian capital.
As the first international airline citing security reasons, Turkmenistan Airlines has now suspended flights to Moscow from August 1, 2023.
-Due to the air situation in the Moscow air zone, as well as on the basis of risk assessment, in order to ensure flight safety, starting from August 1, all flights of Turkmenistan Airlines JSC in the direction of Ashgabat-Moscow-Ashgabat will be suspended, the airline said on its first announcement on its website.
However, the company later revised its website text, obliterating the reason for suspending the services from Ashgabat.
The carrier is continuing flights on its other routes to Russia, including to Kazan, while reining in on frequencies.
According to Lufthansa Consulting, in 2022, half of the Turkmen airline's international flights were destined for Russia, with Moscow as its second-most frequent international destination after Istanbul.
