Aug 02, 2023 (newstodate): Billund Airport handled just one (!) tonne of cargo more in July '23 than in July 2022.
A total of 5,978 tonnes of cargo was thus handled by Cargo Center Billund, including 1,495 tonnes of imports, up 16.1 percent, y-o-y, and 4,483 tonnes of exports, still down 4.4 percent during the month.
In January-July 2023, Billund Airport has handled 41,700 tonnes of cargo, which is still 9.9 percent down, y-o-y, but showing a steady trend of recovery from H1/23 that landed 11.4 percent down, y-o-y.
The seven-months '23 totals include 9,985 tonnes of imports, down 12 percent and 31.715 tonnes of exports, also down 9.3 percent, y-o-y.
Again, imports improved significantly against H1/23 that landed 15.6 percent down, y-o-y, while exports improved at a lower rate, down 10 percent in H1/23.
While not specified, the increase in imports most probably reflects the impact of Maersk Air Cargo's five weekly rotations between Billund and Hangzhou, in China, picking up Chinese e-trade shipments for European distribution, while export loads on the company's eastbound flights are less impressive.
