Jul 28, 2023 (newstodate): Finland's Helsinki Airport reported a sound increase in cargo volumes by 12.2 percent, y-o-y, in June 2023.
A total of 15,435 tonnes of cargo and mail was handled at the airport in June, which was the strongest monthly rebound, and the third with positive growth in 2023.
With 15,133 tonnes, international cargo was the key driver in June, up 13.5 percent.
In the first half of this year, Helsinki Airport is thus seeing a steady recovery in cargo volumes after the preceding years of COVID-19 and despite the ongoing closure of the Russian airspace harming Finnair's Avian traffic development.
In H1/23 a total of 83,633 tonnes of cargo has been handled at Helsinki Airport, albeit still lagging behind 2022 by six percent, with international cargo accounting for 82,442 tonnes, also down 6.3 percent, y-o-y.
In addition to a rebound in Finnair's Asian traffic as well as the carrier's increasing NAM flights, growth is also provided by the Chinese carrier Juneyao Airlines' increase in frequency from two to four weekly rotations from May 22, 2023, on the route connecting Shanghai and Helsinki in addition to their weekly rotation on the route connecting Zhengzhou and Helsinki.
