Jul 26, 2023 (newstodate): In June 2023, Finnair reported a sound growth by 28.3 percent, y-o-y, in cargo volumes.
A total of 12,059 tonnes was carried as belly cargo on Finnair's passenger flights as well as on Qatar Airways flights operated by Finnair under their strategic cooperation, seeing cargo sales on Qatar Airways' routes between Copenhagen, Stockholm, Helsinki and Doha performed by Qatar Airways itself.
Thanks to this cooperation, the Middle East cargo operations for Qatar Airways contributed 1,787 tonnes of cargo during June '23 - up 11,916 percent, y-o-y, from a modest base.
As Finnair's passenger traffic to Asia is picking up after the Covid era, volumes on these lanes are again rising 52.6 percent to 6,510 tonnes despite the longer flying hours due to the bypassing of closed Russian airspace.
The carrier's NAM traffic generated 1,262 tonnes of cargo in June, which was however down by 55.4 percent as discontinued operations between Sweden and the US cut the North Atlantic cargo capacity.
During the first half of this year, Finnair has transported a total of 64,904 tonnes of cargo, a modest increase by 0.9 percent, y-o-y, including 35,119 tonnes of cargo on the Asian lanes, an increase by 29 percent, y-o-y.
