Jun 22, 2023 (newstodate): Swedavia is determined to bolster its position in air cargo, not least at the country's capital Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
In April 2023 Swedavia launched plans for establishing a Cargo City adjacent to the country's capital Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
For a start, Swedavia has dedicated an area spanning 144,400 m2 to the purpose, opening up for construction of facilities to serving air cargo and logistics providers with ample space for handling and office purposes within a secured area.
Swedavia's Real Estate company is now scanning the market for investors and contractors to join the project on long-term contracts in the form of JVs.
Also in April 2023 Swedavia named a new Head of Key Account Management with responsibility for developing the cargo business at its airports, Jan-Olov Forss.
-The global air cargo industry is facing a challenging time in the wake of the corona pandemic, global inflation and disruption of the supply chains due to the Russian war on Ukraine. The effect is of course also noticeable at Swedavia's airports, including Stockholm Airport, says Mr Forss.
-Having said that, there are also underlying positive developments to foment optimism for a rebound in air cargo, and it is crucial for us to prepare in time for a future growth in demands. The vision of a coming Cargo City at Arlanda Airport is thus of crucial importance.
-To further boost Swedavia's competencies in air cargo, we are to add a dedicated Air Cargo Key Account Manager to our team from this coming autumn, bringing in rich professional experience and a firm knowledge of the Swedish air cargo community, says Mr Forss.
