Jun 13, 2023 (newstodate): Still far below 2022-levels, cargo volumes handled at Latvia's Riga Airport are slowly recovering month by month in 2023.
In January-May 2023, the airport has thus handled a total of 7,725 tonnes of cargo, which is down 20 percent, y-o-y, but better than January-April figures that were down 22 percent, y-o-y.
In May, volumes totaled 1,541 tonnes - unchanged against May '22, with mail volumes showing growth.
This may reflect the start of operations in May 2023 by the new Ukrainian cargo airline Supernova on the route between Riga and Rzeszow, in Poland, delivering international parcels of Nova Post customers from Riga International Airport to Rzeszow in Poland.
Flight operations are provided by the Latvian carrier RAF-AVIA with one ATR72 converted cargo aircraft, and plans are so far for two weekly rotations on the route.
